I think these boys are having a ball between battles

I have seen these images before, because I have a large collection of WWII era Better Homes & Gardens magazines. They were inside-the-front-cover, full page ads, obviously done at considerable expense.
Perhaps someone at the ad agency thought that if one shirtless, hairless, tan, athletic man caught the eye of a single woman with a paycheck to spend, perhaps a dozen men would inspire her to redocorate every bathroom she ever set foot in?
I'm now curious if there's a credit to the artist....
13 May 2006 @ 03:47 by J : Certainly inspires *me*...
Apparently yet another reason they were the Greatest.
I definitely want to know the agency and artist behind this campaign. Come to think of it, the CD and copywriter too. It would be a hoot if it was the client's idea.
13 May 2006 @ 04:41 by haha : For women... but clearly, BY MEN!
haha! some gay ad execs had a great time putting those shots together! "the women will love it!" suuuuure....;)
13 May 2006 @ 18:01 by heheh : yes, but
Ha! While the gay subtext is screamingly obvious--that's just the thing--it's TOO obvious; that is--I really think that, yes, women DO get a kick out of buff men, guys, and that that's who this was aimed at, not just a wink-wink towards men. Hell, why is it hard to believe a woman wouldn't like to see beefcake? ; )

...because the servicemen are already out (and proud).

The natives in the back of the first picture are thinking, "Jesus H. Christ, this is the gayest thing we've ever seen!"
